Amphiphilic hollow carbonaceous microspheres for the sorption of phenol from water

► Amphiphilic PHCSs were synthesized from yeast cells. ► The sorption isotherm was practically linear even at extreme high concentrations. ► PHCSs exhibit fast sorption kinetic and facile regeneration property. ► PHCSs are potential effective sorbents, especially at high concentrations.
