Effect of mercury on aryl hydrocarbon receptor-regulated genes in the extrahepatic tissues of C57BL/6 mice

► Mercury alone induced Cyp1a1/1a2/1b1 in the kidney but not in the lung and heart. ► Mercury potentiated the inducible Cyp1a1/1a2/1b1 at mRNA in the kidney. ► Mercury inhibited the inducible Cyp1a1/1a2/1b1 at protein and activity in the kidney. ► Mercury potentiated the inducible Cyp1a1/1a2/1b1 at mRNA and protein in the lung. ► Mercury potentiated the constitutive and inducible Nqo1, Gsta1 in all tissues.
