TiNOx coatings on roughened titanium and CoCr alloy accelerate early osseointegration of dental implants in minipigs

► Titanium nitride oxide (TiNOx) coatings were deposited on Ti-SLA or CoCr implants. ► Coated and uncoated implants were implanted in the jawbone of Göttingen minipigs. ► The new bone‐to‐implant contact was determined at 1, 2, 4 and 12 weeks of healing. ► TiNOx coatings enhance implant osseointegration during the first month of healing. ► The stimulating effect of TiNOx coatings is independent of the substrate.
