► The effects of exogenous GCs on bone are osteoblast-mediated and site specific. ► In response to GC treatment, cortical bone is lost at the tibial endocortex via impaired bone formation and increased bone resorption. ► In contrast, pericortical osteoblasts seem to respond in an anabolic way.
