The normoglycemic first-degree relatives of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus have low circulating omentin-1 and adiponectin levels

► Omentin-1 is a novel adipocytokine that modulates insulin sensitivity. ► We found that first-degree relatives of diabetic patients had low omentin-1 levels. ► Adiponectin levels were also lower in these subjects than in the healthy controls. ► These adipocytokines may have a potential role in pre-diabetes states.
