An entropy-based approach for the identification of phylogenetically informative genomic regions of Papillomavirus

► We assessed the genetic diversity among Papillomaviruses that infect distinct hosts. ► We established a new approach based on entropy. ► The lower the entropy the more informative are the genomic regions. ► Low entropy genomic regions were used in viral phylogeny for the first time. ► Satisfactory phylogenetic trees were obtained using much less computational cost.
