Specific primers for PCR amplification of the ITS1 (ribosomal DNA) of Trypanosoma lewisi

► In this paper we design specific primers for Trypanosoma lewisi in highly specific region of the ITS1 of ribosomal DNA. ► The sensitivity allows to detect the equivalent of 1-10 organisms par reaction. ► Parasites of various origins in Thailand, Cambodia, Lao and China are all detected. ► Absence of cross reaction with other parasites and hosts allows using these primers for screening infection in rodents and human populations.
