Complex spatiotemporal haemodynamic response following sensory stimulation in the awake rat

► Rats were trained to undergo optical imaging spectroscopy whilst fully conscious. ► Haemodynamic responses to whisker pad stimulation were recorded. ► Responses contained oscillations and inversions not found in anaesthetised animals. ► The results may be important for in-vivo research into brain imaging signals.
