Impact of the gyral geometry on the electric field induced by transcranial magnetic stimulation

► The Finite Element Method and a high-resolution head mesh was used to calculate the electric field induced by TMS. ► The gyrification had marked effects on the field distribution. ► The field in GM was strongly increased when the currents were perpendicular to the local gyrus orientation. ► This effect was mainly restricted to the gyral crowns and lips.
