Word frequency effects in the left IFG in dyslexic and normally reading children during picture naming and reading

► We examine the lexical frequency effects in children with and without dyslexia. ► fMRI data for written and pictorial input are compared between groups. ► Dyslexic and normally reading children both show IFG effects known for adults. ► Dyslexic children have stronger effects in BA 44 only during reading. ► fMRI shows the neural basis of impairments to the orthographic input lexicon.
