Small-scale structural and mechanical characterization of the nitrided layer in martensitic steel

► Plasma nitride layer of 2.25Cr-1Mo steel was studied by nanoindentation, XRD and EBSD. ► Interconnected effect of existing microstructure and composition on nanohardness is revealed. ►There is a complex dependence of nanoradness on N concentration.
