Influence of friction on the surface characteristics of EPDM elastomers with different carbon black contents

► Oxygen on the EPDM surface is related with additives and not with backbone of the polymer. ► Zinc segregates on the friction surface depends on the carbon black content. ► Intrinsic water contact angle increases on the friction zone. ► No degradation and oxidation of the backbone structure were observed under these test conditions.
