Transport phenomena in packed bed reactor technology for chemical looping combustion

► In this work we assess the applicability of the Kotchine theorem to the oxidation of metal particles in a packed bed. ► The results are of application in chemical looping technology for carbon capture. ► The velocity of the mass front in the bed of particles is predicted without solving the governing equation. ► The results are general and extendible to heat transfer in packed beds.
