Winery wastewater treatment for water reuse purpose: Conventional activated sludge versus membrane bioreactor (MBR)

► Winery wastewater from Miguel Torres S.A. facilities showed very high temporal variability. ► COD removal was 95% and 97% for the CAS and MBR systems respectively. ► MBR produced a very high quality treated wastewater in terms of COD, suspended solids and microbiological contamination. ► MBR treated wastewater meets the requirements for reuse in agricultural practices. ► Water permeability in the MBR system was correlated to the presence of EPS.
