►Inhibition of NO synthases enhances TRH mRNA levels in hypothalamic PVN. ►Inhibition of NO synthases reduces serum thyrotropin concentration. ►The effect of NO may include a direct action on hypothalamic neurons. ►Inhibition of NO synthase blocked cold stress-induced increase in TSH release. ►Production of NO may control the activity of the HPT axis.
