Separating the effects of shelter from additional cage enhancements for group-housed BALB/cJ mice

► Adding shelter to a home cage increases longevity and reduces wounds in BALB males. ► Shelter alone has very different effects on BALB males than shelter + running wheel. ► Shelter in the home cage has limited effects on behavioral testing of BALB/cJ mice. ► BALB/cJ males showed more effects of home cage enrichment than BALB/cJ females.
