Separable developmental trajectories for the abilities to detect auditory amplitude and frequency modulation

► Maturation of amplitude modulation (AM) and frequency modulation (FM) detection was compared. ► Average detection ability matured later for AM (>12 years of age) than for FM (<8 years of age). ► Performance consistency matured before 8 years of age for both AM and FM detection. ► Results are more consistent with sensory than with attentional development.
