The antibiotic resistance characteristics of non-typhoidal Salmonella enterica isolated from food-producing animals, retail meat and humans in South East Asia

► Antibiotic resistance of food and human Salmonella in South East Asia is discussed. ► Multidrug resistant Salmonella spp. occurred in high frequency. ► Resistance to fluoroquinolones and extended-spectrum cephalosporins was reported. ► Salmonella spp. isolates from all sources contain a pool of mobile genetic elements. ► There is an urgent need to replace antibiotic usage in food producing animals.
