Investigation of some medicinal plants traditionally used for treatment of malaria in Kenya as potential sources of antimalarial drugs

► The review has attempted to highlight ethnobotanically described medicinal plants traditionally used or associated with malaria therapy in Kenya and demonstrated those with high bioactivity against malaria parasites in vitro and in vivo. ► These medicinal plants may probably contain yet undiscovered antimalarial properties; with good bioactivities evident in some of the compounds isolated. ► It is likely that antimalarial natural products will be the lead compounds for the development of new drugs for malaria.
