Use of a fluorescent stain for evaluating in vitro infection with Leishmania panamensis

► In this study we described a protocol based on the use of SYBR® Safe. ► This stain was compared with Giemsa for the evaluation of in vitro Leishmania infection. ► The technique is as sensitive as the traditional Giemsa staining technique. ► SYBR® Safe staining is a simple and promising technique. ► This technique was implemented in our lab for the screening of leishmanicidal compounds.
