Albendazole induces apoptosis in adults and microfilariae of Setaria cervi

► This study showed that albendazole induces apoptosis in the bovine filarial worm Setaria cervi. ► In vitro ABZ treatment leads to a dose-dependent gradual reduction in worm viability. ► DNA fragmentation and condensed chromatin were evident from the results. ► In future, apoptotic pathways in filarial parasites will help in developing a new class of antifilarial drugs.
