► Brominated contaminant trends from 1983 to 2010 were reported for East Greenland polar bears. ► Recently used brominated flame retardants increased over the monitored period. ► BDE47 and BDE99 showed maximum concentrations between 2000 and 2004, after which a decline was observed.
