Boron accumulation and tolerance of hybrid poplars grown on a B-laden mixed paper mill waste landfill

► We studied four hybrid poplar clones grown on a B-laden paper mill waste landfill. ► Poplar growth, trace element accumulation and root traits were investigated. ► Survival and growth were comparable to commercial plantations. ► Root growth was nearly unaffected by the contaminants. ► Adaption of the planting pattern could increase poplar performance.
