Chemical contaminants in water and sediment near fish nesting sites in the Potomac River basin: Determining potential exposures to smallmouth bass (Micropterus dolomieu)

► Water and bed sediment samples were collected at seven active smallmouth bass nesting sites. ► A total of 135 chemicals were detected in at least one of the samples collected. ► A significant positive relation between intersex in SMB and atrazine in the water column above the fish nests was observed. ► A significant positive relation between intersex in SMB and total hormone/sterol in bed sediment at the nests was observed.
