► We studied the influence of landscape features on pollutant transfer in food webs. ► Cd and Pb were measured in blood, feathers and diet items of European blackbirds. ► Landscape composition, but not diversity, influenced metal transfer to blackbirds. ► The composition of the diet varied with landscape composition. ► The influence of landscape on pollutant transfer seemed related to diet variations.
