Concentrations and source apportionment of PM10 and associated major and trace elements in the Rhodes Island, Greece

► Chemical Mass Balance receptor modeling of PM10 was carried out at two sites in the Rhodes Island, Eastern Mediterranean. ► Vehicular emissions, secondary sulfates and geological dusts were found to be the major PM10 contributors. ► The nearby power plant was negligible contributor to PM10, but contributed appreciably to V and Ni. ► Trajectory analysis indicated long range transport of soil dust from arid regions of Minor Asia. ► Transport of biomass burning aerosol from countries surrounding the Black Sea was assumed.
