An event-related analysis of awakening reactions due to nocturnal church bell noise

►We model awakening probability due to nightly church bell ringings in a field study. ►We applied polysomnography and concurrent acoustic recordings in 27 subjects. ►Awakening probability increases with increasing maximum SPL of bell ringings. ►Exposure-response relationships are reported and compared with other noise sources. ►The paper concludes with considerations regarding nighttime noise regulation.
