Spatial and temporal distribution of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the atmosphere of Xiamen, China

► Five sampling sites have been chosen to discuss the spatial and temporal characteristics for coastal city. ► The diagnostic ratios indicated that vehicle exhaust was a primary source for atmospheric PAHs in Xiamen. ► The average BaPeq for Xiamen indicated that the health risks of particulate PAHs were higher than those in the gaseous. ► It is the first time to systemically discuss the characterization of PAHs and its potential risk in Xiamen.
