Feedback between windblown dust and planetary boundary-layer characteristics: Sensitivity to boundary and surface layer parameterizations

► Shortwave direct radiative forcing by dust aerosols is successfully modelled. ► Radiative forcing shown to be sensitive to boundary-layer and land surface schemes. ► Mineral dust cools and warms the lower and upper boundary layer, respectively. ► Suspended dust modifies boundary-layer profiles, stabilizing the lower atmosphere. ► Aerosols cause near-surface reduction of wind speed with increase aloft.
