Metal-organic framework ZIF-8 nanocomposite membrane for efficient recovery of furfural via pervaporation and vapor permeation

► ZIF-8 nanoparticles exhibit high adsorption selectivity and capacity for furfural. ► ZIF-8-silicone rubber membrane with high particle loading was prepared. ► Hierarchically ordered stainless-steel-mesh was used as a skeleton-type substrate. ► A novel “Plugging-Filling” method for membrane fabrication was employed. ► The membrane possesses excellent stability for efficient recovery of furfural.
