Understanding the relationship between aboveground biomass and ALOS PALSAR data in the forests of Guinea-Bissau (West Africa)

► Development of an aboveground biomass map for Guinea-Bissau from radar data. ► Comparing a semi-empirical model and bagging stochastic gradient boosting (BagSGB). ► BagSGB model performed better, R = 0.95, RMSE = 26.62 Mg ha-1. ► Issues were (i) presence of palms, (ii) plot size, (iii) vegetation structural types.
