Carbon monoxide from shortwave infrared reflectance measurements: A new retrieval approach for clear sky and partially cloudy atmospheres

► We present a new algorithm for CO retrieval from SWIR radiance measurements. ► Simplified radiative transfer is implemented to account for scattering by clouds. ► Single cloud layers can be treated with a CO retrieval accuracy of <2-3%. ► Prior uncertainty of methane is an important CO error source (≤9 \%).
