Toward remote-controlled valve functions via magnetically responsive capillary pore membranes

► Track-etched membrane pores were grafted with flexible polymer chains end-capped with nanoparticles. ► Using superparamagnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles magnetically responsive porous membranes were obtained. ► The water flux through these membanes was reversibly changed by external magnetic fields.
