Precise pore size tuning and surface modifications of polymeric membranes using the atomic layer deposition technique

► Atomic layer deposition (ALD) is effective in coating oxides on polymer membranes. ► Membrane pore sizes were tuned by ALD at a sub-angstrom preciseness. ► The deposited membranes showed rising retention and reducing flux. ► Al2O3-deposited membranes displayed improved hydrophilicity. ► Al2O3-deposited membranes showed good resistance to acids and organic solvents.
