Predicting maize yield in a multiple species competition with Xanthium strumarium and Amaranthus retroflexus: Comparing of approaches to modeling herbicide performance

► A model based on weed leaf area was used to predict crop yield affected by herbicide. ► The dose response of each weed species leaf area was included in model. ► Leaf area model permits to monitor the canopy and decide about reducing the dose. ► The model showed a better prediction than the former approach based on weed density.
