Antifungal activity of Nepeta elliptica Royle ex Benth. oil and its major constituent (7R)-trans,trans-nepetalactone: A comparative study

- N. elliptica oil has dominant presence of (7R)-trans,trans-nepetalactone (1).
- The antifungal activity of the oil and 1 was tested against phytopathogenic fungi.
- Oil and 1 showed high inhibitory activity against H. maydis and F. oxysporum.
- The activity may be accredited mainly to the presence of nepetalactone (1).
- The oil and 1 have potential as natural fungicide for controlling fungal pathogens.
