Metabolite fingerprint of “capim dourado” (Syngonanthus nitens), a basis of Brazilian handcrafts

▶ Syngonanthus nitens is a Brazilian plant known as “capim dourado” due to its beautiful golden colour. ▶ Handcrafts made with S. nitens are an important source of income for Brazilian artisans. ▶ Scapes are used to make handcrafts, while flowerheads represent a waste matter. ▶ HPLC-ESI-MS profiles of S. nitens extracts highlighted the occurrence of flavonoids and xanthones, among which 6 new natural products. ▶ Flavonoids derivatives are probably responsible for “capim dourado” golden colour.
