Short-range resource location by Tribolium castaneum Herbst (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) demonstrates a strong preference for fungi associated with cotton seed

► Resource location by Tribolium castaneum was studied in the laboratory, glasshouse and field. ► Responses of walking T. castaneum to resources were twice as strong as when flying. ► Linted cotton seeds attracted five times more walking beetles than wheat or sorghum.
