A comparative study on hydrocarbon detection using three EMD-based time-frequency analysis methods

► We study hydrocarbon detection in marine carbonate reservoirs. ► Three EMD-based methods are compared in the application of hydrocarbon detection. ► NHT method and HU method are introduced in hydrocarbon detection. ► Energy distributions using the HHT method and NHT method are stronger. ► We consider that the NHT algorithm has better effects than the other two algorithms.
