Phylogenetic relationships of the elopomorph fish †Paraelops cearensis Silva Santos revisited: Evidence from new specimens

► Paraelops cearensis is an elopomorph known exclusively from the Albian of Brazil. ► Its systematic position is reassessed based on new specimens. ► The cladistic analysis indicated Paraelops as the basal taxon of the Elopoidei. ► This clade is supported by apomorphies in jaws and vertebral column.
