Oxidation of textile wastewater using cylinder Ti/β-PbO2 electrode in electrocatalytic tube reactor

Electrocatalytic tube reactor using Ti/PbO2 cylinder electrode had been fabricated to degrade textile wastewater. The electrode was synthesized by anodic electrodeposition method. It was utilized as an anode and paired with stainless steel cathode located in the center of electrocatalytic tube and connected to a driving engine that enabled it to be used as mixer. Reactor was operated by flowing textile wastewater and charging it at 5.6 DC V. Optimum operation condition was investigated on specified variables, i.e., HRT (2 and 4 h), pH (6 and 9), and concentration of salt (3000 and 4000 mg/L). Physico-chemical characterization of synthesized Ti/PbO2 electrode showed that PbO2 was deposited with tetragonal crystal structure and ±200 nm of particle size. Reactor was able to degrade wastewater and decrease BOD, COD, TSS, NH3, phenol, and H2S to 96%, 59%, 91%, 74%, 70% and 82%, respectively, on an operation condition: 19 A, 5.6 V, pH 6, 4000 mg/L salt concentration and HRT 4 h.
