The possibility of intensifying a mass/heat transfer at the central corrugated sheet of the rotor of the model of rotary regenerator was tested by applying the concentric slits. The aim was to utilize the peculiarity of distribution of the transfer coefficient for the entry length. The electrochemical method was used, for the rotor with the baffle inside of it, to determine:
• the influence of rotation on the degree of increase of the mean transfer coefficient for the sheet without – and with the slits;
• the ratio of the mean transfer coefficient for the sheet with the slits to that for the sheet without the slits;
• the ratio of the degree of increase of the transfer coefficient as a result of rotation for the sheet with slits to that for the sheet without the slits.NaOH (1 mol) based electrolyte with equimolar quantities of K3Fe(CN)6 and K4Fe(CN)6 was used during the whole experiment. The Schmidt number was 1590. Measurements were made for the mean Reynolds number Re = 150 – 1270, at rotation number (Rossby) Ro, as a parameter: 0; 0.15; 0.20 and 0.25. A several percent of increase of intensity of the mass/heat transfer was stated as a result of using the sheet with the slits. This offers a possibility of improving the commercial indexes of the sheet rotary regenerators. The final correlation on the Chilton–Colburn coefficient was stated for the case of sheets with the slits on the background of the case without the slits. The results for Ro = 0 were satisfactory compared with the results of calculations with utilization of the Lévêque’s correlation.
