Chitosan modified zeolite as a versatile adsorbent for the removal of different pollutants from water

- Chitosan was successfully loaded as a monolayer on zeolite synthesized from fly ash.
- Modified zeolite kept 87.4% of the retention capacity of original zeolite for NH4+.
- Phosphate removal was improved by modification with chitosan.
- The capacity for humic acid removal was greatly augmented after modification.
