Coupling transport phenomena and tar cracking in the modeling of microwave-induced pyrolysis of wood

► A model for microwave induced pyrolysis of wood is developed. ► Primary and secondary reactions are coupled with transport phenomena. ► Predicted and measured weight loss characteristics show a good agreement. ► High yields of bio-oil can be produced from the microwave pyrolysis of wood blocks.
