Selection of heterogeneous catalysts for biodiesel production from animal fat

► Several materials were prepared to be applied as heterogeneous catalysts for the transesterification of fat. ► Calcium manganese oxide was selected for detailed studies using response surface methodology (RSM). ► A model representing the influence of reaction conditions on biodiesel purity was developed. ► The selected catalyst was reused without significant loss of activity.
