Properties of thiolate monolayers formed on different amalgam electrodes

► Thiol monolayers were investigated at electrodes based on Ag, Cu, Bi and Cd amalgams. ► Potential range of layer stability is dependent on nature of the amalgam forming metal. ► A thiol monolayer at amalgam electrodes fully blocks their surface. ► Reproducibility of a thiol monolayer preparation is about 2-3 %. ► Amalgam electrodes are convenient tools for the study of properties of thiol films.
