Developmental profiles of task-avoidant behaviour and reading skills in Grades 1 and 2

► Four developmental profiles of task-avoidance and reading fluency were identified. ► A group with high reading fluency but also high task-avoidance was found. ► Pre-reading skills predicted differences in reading fluency levels. ► Kindergarten-age social competence skills predicted differences in task-avoidance.
