Aluminumdodecatungstophosphate (AlPW12O40) a highly water tolerant, green Lewis acid has been applied as an efficient catalyst for the preparation of indole derivatives as bis(indolyl)methanes from carbonyl compounds via Friedel–Crafts alkylation and 3-substituted indoles via Michael addition of indole to α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds in CH3CN at room temperature.
