Coping with the unforeseen in surgical work

▶ We study how hospital staff cope with unforeseen events and deviations from plans. ▶ We draw on research on high reliability organisations (HRO's). ▶ Unforeseen events in the hospital are managed by anticipation and containment. ▶ IT-support must focus on creating a 'mindful infrastructure'.
