Bioactive electrospun fish sarcoplasmic proteins as a drug delivery system

- Nano-microfibers were made from fish sarcoplasmic proteins (FSP) using electrospinning.
- Fiber morphology was strongly dependent on FSP concentration.
- The FSP fibers were insoluble in aqueous media, but degradable when exposed to proteolytic enzymes.
- The degradation products of the fibers were inhibitors of the diabetes related enzyme DPP-IV.
- Ala-Trp was encapsulated. Within 30 min in gastric buffer ∼70% of Ala-Trp was released, whereas in intestinal buffer ∼70% was released after 15 min.
